Why Pilates?

From the Tumble Track to the Reformer — How a lifetime of movement led me to this practice

In the local newspaper of my tiny hometown, was printed 3 activities for children, my mother pointed to the section and advised I pick something to do with my life, I suppose. Without even noticing the other 2 to compare, I slid my finger directly over to the photograph of a group of competitive cheerleaders doing what looked like a very difficult stunt.

At 4 years old, my mother took me to my first year of competitive cheer practices and performances. By age 9, we added gymnastics to my routine of school, clarinet, cheer, and boys — if i had the time.

By age 14, I had been cheering for 10 years straight, performed live on ESPN, traveled the country with my mother, and grown a sport-sisterhood with my teammates who I love to this day.

By age 15, I collected more athletic accolades, trophies, and medals than an Army kid could move from city to city. Forgotten are my accolades, but my body kept score.

The final year of my cheer “career” came to an end when I no longer could sustain the metabolic lifestyle required to perform athletics in my junior year of high school.

This immediately led to a decline in my mental, physical, and spiritual health.

For years I began my journey studying holistic wellness personally while, training to be a pharmacy technician outside of Business school credits I completed at Wharton.

By age 20, I crafted a small following of 10,000 people worldwide on a similar journey back to health including most prominently, my readers, shoppers, and creative collaborators.

In my early 20’s I discovered Pilates — it was love at first Roll Back. (definitely not The Hundred.)

After years of practicing Pilates I noticed 3 unusual things:
- My intelligence came across clearer in my speech.
- Domestic tasks became easier; creating a diligent and organized home life.
- My body flowed with the [interior] design of a room, instead of against it — an understanding of my body in space.

Of course, all the obvious reasons to start Pilates have been published on Instagram carousels for years, but these are the 3 changes I noticed which I can no longer go without.

A regular Pilates practice makes me a better professional, a better homemaker, and a better neighbor.

When I chose to begin studying to teach Pilates, everything fell seamlessly into place.

I completed my classical training at the Equinox Pilates Teacher Institute with a number of very talented group fitness educators.

Now, my primary goal is to design unique classical experiences for women who want a deeper connection with their body, their home, their cycle, and their community.

A well-taught Pilates class has a way of staying with you. Sometimes longer than expected.
